I was honestly at the edge of my seat with tears in my eyes as I was writing more and more parts for this song (well before the lyrics and singing joined), so when it came time to write and record the vocals I definitely aimed for a broken, strained performance with them.

What really did the trick for me here was pairing my 303s with slightly detuned supporting synths, and the specific melodies that came to me.

Initially I meant to name the song Twisted, but the "Little masochistic me" bit turned out to be the stronger hook and more appropriate title.
