The hammer in question is that metaphorical one with which one goes after creativity. Can't let that ephemeral bastard out of your sight!
It is also specifically in reference to the piano melody here, I feel that was my hammer with this song.
Before that I had the chord progression, which was the first thing I came up with for this song today, then drums and stuff, but the piano melody at first felt a bit like a placeholder, but I hammered it down so well into the song that it became more than that.
I'm also pretty impressed with myself over the arrangement, because in loop form it seemed like it's gonna be challenging to go from the end of the loop to the beginning of it, constantly losing energy in that transition, but I think I managed to make that an asset rather than a liability.
